Disco Nosco
Latin Language and Literature Course
Beginners
This course is designed for students who are complete beginners or who are returning to Latin for a refresher. However, no prior knowledge is necessary for this level. We will focus on the key elements of Latin grammar and build up the students’ basic Latin vocabulary to enable the student to translate adapted Latin texts. On this course, the student will cover all major noun and adjective groups, meet key pronouns and will learn how to conjugate active verbs in various tenses, including an introduction to deponent verbs.
Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed the Latin Beginners course above, or who are returning to Latin for a refresher and already have knowledge of elementary Latin. We will revise the key elements of Latin grammar and develop a more advanced vocabulary to enable students to translate original Latin texts. On this course, the student will refine their knowledge of each of the noun and adjective groups, revise all pronouns and be able to conjugate verbs in each of the tenses in both active and passive voice, with familiarisation of deponent verbs.
Advanced
This course is designed for students who have completed the Latin Intermediate course above, or who can demonstrate that they have attained an intermediate level of studying Latin. The student will master all elements of Latin grammar and expand their Latin vocabulary to enable students to tackle more complex original Latin texts. On this course, the student will master all noun, pronoun and adjective groups, and meet more complex grammatical constructs using participles, gerunds and gerundives, in addition to meeting the subjunctive.
